About the practice

The Colchester Vets is a new, independent, vet-led practice opening in Colchester. We are looking for an enthusiastic veterinary surgeon to join our founding clinical team. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to help build a modern first-opinion practice with strong clinical standards, good communication and a genuinely supportive team culture. We want our vets to have the time, equipment and autonomy to work cases up to a high standard, communicate clearly with clients, and make decisions that are right for their patients. The practice has been designed to offer high-quality first-opinion care alongside more advanced GP-plus services where appropriate.

Facilities will include:

  • CT
  • Laparoscopy
  • Endoscopy
  • Ultrasound
  • Dental radiography
  • Conventional radiography
  • Full in-house laboratory

Our aim is to create a team that works well together, supports each other properly, and takes pride in the care it provides.

The role

We are looking for a vet who enjoys first-opinion practice and wants to work in a progressive, well-equipped environment. You should be comfortable with routine consultations, medical work-ups and general surgical cases. You do not need to have a particular clinical interest already, but we would be very happy to support one. Certificates and further development are actively encouraged. This role could suit an experienced GP vet looking for a better environment, a vet returning to practice, or someone wanting to develop further with the right support around them.

What we are looking for:

  • Positive, kind and proactive
  • Confident with routine consultations
  • Comfortable with general medical and surgical cases
  • Good communicators with clients and colleagues
  • Team-focused and supportive of others
  • Keen to keep developing clinically

Experience is welcome, but attitude matters just as much.

What we offer:

  • 4-day working week
  • No out-of-hours
  • No bank holidays
  • Salary £45,000–£75,000 DOE
  • RCVS and professional subscriptions paid
  • Funded CPD Certificate support
  • Modern, purpose-designed facilities
  • Advanced equipment including CT, laparoscopy, endoscopy and ultrasound
  • Supportive, independent, vet-led environment
  • Opportunity to help shape a new practice from the start

Why join us?

Veterinary work is demanding, but we believe it can be done in a better way. We want The Colchester Vets to be a place where people enjoy coming to work, where clinical standards are high, and where the whole team feels valued for the care and effort they put in. If you are looking for a role with autonomy, support, modern facilities and the chance to be part of a new independent practice, we would love to hear from you.
