Overview

As General Manager, you will shape and deliver a safe, compliant, and future-ready national fleet operation.

You’ll lead strategy, governance, and performance for a large logistics fleet and MHE, partnering with senior stakeholders to drive sustainability and Net Zero progress.

You’ll influence fleet investments, technology adoption, and regulatory compliance across the network.

This role is a strategic blend of engineering expertise, commercial leadership, and cross-functional influence.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement long-term fleet, MHE, and compliance strategy to adapt to operational, legislative, and tech changes
  • Oversee national fleet operations, including procurement, lifecycle management, maintenance and disposal
  • Act as SME on transport legislation, operator licensing and fleet compliance
  • Build and maintain relationships with regulators, enforcement bodies, suppliers and industry partners
  • Lead major fleet procurement and tender activities to shape future vehicle and maintenance solutions
  • Identify and drive innovative technologies, alternative fuels and sustainable fleet solutions
  • Oversee supplier performance, commercial agreements and large fleet investments to maximize value
  • Lead and develop a specialist team and influence senior stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and performance
  • Key requirements
  • Significant experience leading fleet, transport or logistics operations in a large, complex organisation
  • Strong technical and engineering understanding of HGV fleets and fleet technologies
  • Extensive knowledge of transport legislation, operator licensing, and compliance standards
  • Experience developing fleet strategies and managing supplier relationships and investments
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen with budget and procurement experience
  • Excellent stakeholder management and ability to translate technical info into business recommendations
  • Road Haulage CPC qualification or equivalent experience with regulatory understanding
