We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Sales & Projects Engineer to join an industry-leading manufacturer of specialist capital equipment and engineered solutions supplied into the utilities and industrial sectors.

The role is based from the company’s Head Office in Huddersfield, where you will be a proactive and highly motivated individual, responsible for developing long-term project sales opportunities, generating new business and maintaining existing accounts throughout the north of England, Wales and Scotland.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not a high-volume transactional sales role. The position involves technical and consultative project sales, managing longer-term opportunities from initial enquiry through to quotation and project award. The role will also involve site surveys, relationship development and project coordination.

Territory: The territory will cover the north of England, Wales and Scotland.

Essential Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

  • Degree/HND qualified in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • Demonstrate a successful background within project sales and business development
  • Resilient and disciplined, with the ability to work autonomously within the territory
  • Engineering or technical background within the wastewater utilities sector would be a distinct advantage
  • Previous experience selling capital equipment, engineered systems or technical projects
  • Strong negotiation, planning and organisational skills
  • Commercially and contractually aware
  • Able to interpret, measure, sketch and report information obtained from site visits and surveys
  • Ability to negotiate and secure suitable projects in line with customer requirements and company capabilities
  • Strong relationship building skills with the ability to develop long-term customer partnerships

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will be expected to regularly visit customer sites across your territory to understand client requirements, carry out surveys and support ongoing project opportunities.
  • Field based role so must be able to work autonomously within your territory
  • Develop new business whilst maintaining and servicing existing clients
  • Promptly follow up leads, enquiries and sales opportunities through to project award
  • Undertake site surveys and generate detailed and accurate reports
  • Preparation of quotations and technical specifications for clients
  • Provide technical advice and recommend suitable products and solutions to customers
  • Communicate effectively with clients, engineers, procurement and management personnel
  • Attend client meetings, exhibitions and commercial meetings as required
  • Ensure that territory sales potential is achieved
  • Build and maintain strong long-term customer relationships
  • Flexible approach to the demands and needs of the client and company, including occasional overnight stays where required
  • Support project coordination and customer requirements from initial enquiry through to completion
  • Any other sales and marketing duties as reasonably requested
