An exciting development opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Ward Manager within the outpatient department at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. This is a full‑time permanent position working across Liverpool, Aintree and Paddington sites, with occasional cover at the Wirral site. The role requires a registered Nurse with outpatient experience to support the ward manager with managerial duties, change management and to be a visible clinical leader within the department.

Main duties of the role:

  • Provide visible clinical leadership and act as a point of escalation and role model for registered nurses.
  • Assist the outpatient department manager with staffing, rostering and absence management.
  • Ensure safe staffing across all outpatient sites and manage PADRs, recruitment selection and incident response.
  • Support the development and maintenance of staff clinical competencies and promote professional development.
  • Help optimise service delivery and support staff with training and clinical guidance.

Qualifications:

  • First‑level registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
  • Evidence of consistent professional and educational development.
  • BSc in Nursing, Health or management related studies or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Recognised management qualification or relevant management experience.

Experience:

  • Significant post‑registration experience across a range of clinical specialties.
  • Experience leading service development or change.
  • Teaching or mentorship experience.
  • Complex problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience caring for patients with tracheostomy or laryngectomy.

Knowledge and Expertise:

  • Understanding of political and strategic health agendas and their operational impact.
  • Innovative and enthusiastic approach to practice.
  • High‑level negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Ability to cultivate positive relationships and communicate effectively under pressure.
  • Capability to develop, plan and implement short and long‑range goals.
