Company Description
The Clapham Grand is one of London’s last remaining Victorian variety halls, proudly independent, fiercely inclusive, and totally committed to joy. Our programme is as eclectic as our audience, drag royalty, comedy icons, club classics, cult film screenings, live music legends, and more. We’re here to bring people together for unforgettable nights out, and our tech is a huge part of the magic.
Role Description
The Clapham Grand is on the lookout for a skilled, confident and collaborative Full Time Sound & Light Engineer to take the reins of our show delivery and production infrastructure. This is a dream role for a lighting and sound tech who’s just as happy running a couple of mics and a backing track as they are programming a high-energy light show for a drag cabaret or switching AV inputs on the fly. You’ll be responsible for ensuring technical consistency, excellence, and safety across shows, and bringing some much-needed continuity to a space currently relying on freelancers. We want someone who takes real pride in how things look, sound and feel. Someone who knows their way around a Chamsys desk, can troubleshoot without tantrums, and thrives in a collaborative, multi-show environment with a brilliant in-house team. From live gigs to corporate events to wild club nights, we want you to make every show sing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and adapt Chamsys show files to suit each event’s needs
- Deliver consistent, high-quality technical support across live shows, club nights and private events
- Set up and operate PA systems for events using microphones, DIs, and backing tracks
- Support incoming productions with get-ins, show calls and get-outs
- Handle power distribution safely and efficiently
- Run content through our video switching system and support basic AV troubleshooting
- Confidently operate truss motors and understand truss loads; ensure safe rigging practices
- Work closely with programming, FOH and artist liaison teams to ensure seamless show flow
- Flag any technical issues with management
You Are:
- Fully competent with Chamsys lighting desks (essential), and ideally familiar with other systems
- Experienced with live sound, able to run simple shows solo and understand venue audio routing
- Comfortable with power distro, basic AV, rigging and safe working at height
- Knowledge of Dante systems is a bonus, but not essential
- Organised, safety-conscious and confident leading show days solo
- Happy working evenings and weekends as part of the core team
- Passionate about creating great audience experiences and supporting live performance
- A natural collaborator. Great with teams, performers and visiting crews alike
Salary: Dependant on experience
