We are recruiting a Senior Civil & Structural Design Engineer to join our newly awarded SSE North team, to ensure we provide our client with the best value and working design solutions, eradicating technical problems associated with substation design.
The Role
We’ll look to you and your expertise to ensure optimised and sustainable design solutions for our Distribution Network Operations (DNO), receiving the client’s brief and formulating the scope of work and developing the design philosophy. You will be responsible for a range of specifications, calculations, reports, and drawings for key projects, and managing programmes to help drive innovation and sustainability while keeping safety as a priority. By working proactively with the rest of the design team, we will help contribute towards the government target of NETzero.
Here are some of the activities that you will get involved with:
- Review and prepare design scopes and programmes
- Prepare high-quality, efficient and well-reasoned designs
- Both concrete & steel structures
- Some geotechnical knowledge is preferred
- Where appropriate, coordinate the design with other disciplines
- Work with our CAD team to translate your designs to drawings
- Ensure appropriate pre-construction reports are produced
- Where required undertake the role of Principal Designer (preferred)
We would love to hear from you if you can demonstrate:
- A solid understanding of engineering principles and demonstrable experience in achieving value through innovation, plus knowledge of CDM and computer literacy
- Analysis skills and the ability to communicate clearly through sketching, drawing, presentations and writing
- A relevant engineering degree is essential and a chartership or working towards one via IStructE, ICE, etc. would be advantageous
