We're looking for an experienced Plant Operative/Machine Operator to join our team working on the Thames Water framework, supporting the delivery of essential water infrastructure works. This is a hands-on, site-based role for someone who takes pride in operating plant safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
You'll play a key part in enabling excavation, installation, and reinstatement activities, working closely with site teams to ensure works are delivered safely and in line with Clancy and Thames Water requirements.
Responsibilities- Operating excavators above and below 10 tonnes to support water mains, service connections, and associated civils works
- Driving and operating dumpers to move materials safely around site
- Supporting excavation works, including trench preparation, backfilling, and reinstatement to specification
- Working safely around live services using CAT & Genny detection
- Driving HGV Class 1 or Class 2 vehicles where required to transport plant, materials, or equipment
- Towing plant and trailers using vehicles with B+E entitlement
- Carrying out daily plant checks, basic maintenance, and defect reporting
- Completing job records, defect sheets, and site documentation accurately
- Working safely in highways, residential areas, and public-facing environments
- Maintaining full compliance with Thames Water health, safety, and environmental standards
You have proven experience operating plant and machinery within the utilities or water sector and are confident working as part of a site team. You'll have a strong safety mindset, particularly around safe digging practices and working near live services, and take a professional approach on customer-facing sites.
You'll hold relevant tickets including CPCS 360 Excavator (above and/or below 10T), Dumper, and a CSCS card, along with a clean UK manual driving licence. HGV Class 1 or Class 2, Driver CPC, B+E towing entitlement, and certifications such as Abrasive Wheels and Manual Handling are essential.
