You will be playing a key role in delivering environmental expertise across our civil engineering projects, addressing challenges and driving sustainable innovation that minimises negative impacts of key infrastructure projects in the South East. This is a dynamic and hands-on role that requires excellent communication and collaboration skills, as you will work closely with colleagues, clients, and statutory regulators to ensure environmental compliance, risk mitigation and continual improvement.

Here are some of the activities you will be involved with:

  • Provide expert environmental advice across all project phases, ensuring compliance with regulations, permits, and industry best practices.
  • Undertake environmental impact assessments and develop plans aligned with our Environmental Management System.
  • Ensure all works adhere to legal and environmental requirements, minimizing impact and promoting sustainability.
  • Support accurate data collection, monitoring, analysis, and reporting of environmental performance.
  • Conduct inspections and audits in line with ISO 14001, environmental legislation, and permit conditions, ensuring non-conformances are addressed.
  • Offer incident management support, advising operational teams and promoting best practices.
  • Ensure incidents and near misses are reported, categorized, and followed up with corrective actions.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance sustainability within civil engineering projects.

We would love to hear from you if you can demonstrate:

  • Demonstrable experience in an environmental role within civil engineering, utilities, or a related industry.
  • A good understanding of environmental legislation and its practical application in construction and infrastructure projects is key, along with experience managing environmental risks, developing environmental plans and reports and interpreting data.
  • A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused mindset, along with highly developed communication skills and demonstrable experience building great relationships with colleagues, clients and regulatory bodies.
  • A degree in Environmental Science (or an equivalent qualification/experience) is essential, along with experience in consents and permitting processes related to construction projects.
  • A genuine passion for environmental protection and continuous improvement is crucial, along with a commitment to identifying new opportunities for sustainable growth.
  • As this role is predominantly field-based, a full UK driving licence is essential. Travel will be throughout the South East.
