As the UK's largest water and wastewater services provider, Thames Water plays a vital role in ensuring a reliable, sustainable network for millions of customers. We're excited to support their long-term vision by delivering essential infrastructure that strengthens network resilience, boosts environmental performance, and meets the growing needs of the region.
We are looking for an experienced Foreman to join our team working on the Thames Water framework, delivering clean water mains renewal projects. Reporting to the Works Manager or Senior Foreman, you will play a key role in overseeing site gangs, promoting a strong safety culture, managing resources, and driving quality to ensure works are delivered efficiently and in line with contractual requirements. This is a hands-on leadership role, supporting the day-to-day delivery of works while maintaining high standards across health and safety, quality, programme, and customer satisfaction.
Here are some of the activities you will be involved in:
- Managing daily site operations, labour, plant, and materials to meet programme and quality standards
- Supervising gangs on mains renewal projects and supporting the Works Manager/Senior Foreman with day-to-day delivery
- Promoting a proactive health and safety culture, demonstrating visible leadership and compliance with company policies
- Controlling CDM compliance and operational risk on site
- Ensuring lifting activities and Temporary Works are properly controlled and meet all legislative requirements
- Coaching teams in health, safety, quality, and best practice to continually improve performance
- Mentoring operatives and subcontractors, ensuring competence and compliance at all times
- Leading by example, encouraging hazard reporting and embedding a zero-harm culture
- Overseeing site documentation, including H&S plans, environmental plans, and quality records
- Managing plant, materials, and resources efficiently to support delivery against programme
- Maintaining accurate daily records, reports, and KPIs, contributing to weekly site reporting
We would love to hear from you if you are an experienced Foreman with a strong background in clean water works, ideally mains renewal. You will hold a full, valid manual UK driving licence and relevant site-based qualifications including Streetworks Supervisor (NRSWA), SSSTS or SMSTS, CSCS, Water Hygiene, Service Avoidance, and First Aid.
Experience managing people and subcontractors is essential, along with a good level of commercial awareness and an understanding of cost, productivity, and programme management. Confidence in liaising with customers, clients, and internal and external stakeholders is also important.
A good working knowledge of CDM regulations and safe systems of work is required. You will be comfortable using digital tools, including Microsoft Office applications and smartphone-based site systems, to support day-to-day reporting and coordination. Strong communication and coaching skills, excellent planning ability, and the confidence to make decisions in demanding environments will support success in this role.
A proactive, solution-focused approach is key, with the ability to work under pressure, adapt to change, and motivate teams to achieve common goals while maintaining high standards of safety.
