We are currently seeking a Contractor Competency Authorising Officer (CCAO) to join our dynamic Energy team. This permanent role involves ensuring the competency of contractor personnel within the electrical distribution field, specifically for SSEN works ranging from 11kV to 132kV.
Responsibilities
- Assessing individuals against defined competency criteria, including technical knowledge, experience, and understanding of Distribution Safety Rules.
- Conducting structured assessments using interviews, scenario questioning, and evidence review.
- Verifying candidate evidence such as training records, authorisations, logbooks, and experience records.
- Producing and signing a Contractor Competence Assurance Statement for each candidate.
- Maintaining contractor competency matrices and role profiles, ensuring reassessment where necessary.
- Operating independently from programme and commercial pressures to ensure consistency and fairness in competence decisions.
- Maintaining strong communication and collaboration with SSEN Authorising Officers, Operational Safety teams, and Project & Delivery Managers.
Qualifications
- Significant experience working in UK electricity distribution networks.
- Strong understanding of Distribution Safety Rules, Permit to Work systems, and HV/EHV operational protocols.
- Experience in roles such as Senior Authorised Person (SAP), Authorising Officer, Electrical Safety Manager, or Commissioning Manager/Lead Engineer.
- Recognised electrical qualification or equivalent industry route.
- Full UK Driving licence.
- High Voltage (HV) operational experience appropriate to distribution environments.
Desirable Experience
- Previous SSEN authorisation (current or historical).
- Experience conducting formal competence assessments or audits.
