This role plays a key part in protecting water quality across the network, helping to deliver safe, clean drinking water to customers every day.
Working as part of our operational team, you'll carry out planned and reactive water quality activities across the distribution network. This is a field-based role, working outdoors with underground assets, travelling across local and wider areas, and supporting both routine maintenance and incident response. Flexibility is essential, including out-of-hours working when required. You will be based at Great Billing or Milton Keynes.
Here are some of the activities you will be involved in:
- Surveying, inspecting, and maintaining the water distribution network, including valves and critical assets
- Carrying out valve operations and flushing
- Locating assets and updating digital network records using GIS systems
- Completing risk assessments and following approved safe systems of work
- Undertaking water quality sampling and monitoring across the network and customer properties
- Collecting and sharing accurate field data using digital tablet systems
- Supporting repairs by providing clear and accurate asset information
- Maintaining emergency equipment and supporting incident response activities
We would love to hear from you if you enjoy hands-on, outdoor work and take pride in delivering high-quality, safe outcomes. You'll hold a full UK driving licence and be comfortable working independently as well as part of a wider operational team. Previous experience within water networks, mains laying, service connections, or a similar utilities environment would be beneficial, along with a strong focus on health, safety, and quality. An interest in water quality testing, asset performance, and continuous improvement is key.
Relevant industry certifications such as EUSR Water Hygiene, SHEA Water, sampling, or mains disinfection are desirable, although full training and support will be provided to help you develop and progress within the role. A positive, customer-focused attitude, flexibility to support out-of-hours work, and a willingness to learn, upskill, and contribute to a strong health and safety culture will support success in this position.
