We're looking for someone who can inspire and support our busy operational teams to consistently deliver work using best-in-class health and safety practices. Your inquisitive nature will help you understand the real challenges our colleagues face on site, and we'll rely on you to provide practical solutions with clear, engaging advice that motivates people to work safely. You'll also help shape and deliver communication strategies that resonate, from in-person conversations to videos and podcasts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and develop a small team of H&S Advisors, ensuring consistent, high-quality support across all operational areas.
  • Set clear team goals and priorities, aligned to organisational objectives and emerging risk.
  • Oversee the programme of site inspections and audits, ensuring findings drive meaningful improvement.
  • Guide the team in supporting accident and incident investigations, ensuring accurate reporting and strong learning outcomes.
  • Provide strategic Health, Safety and Wellbeing input into tenders and bids, aligning safety commitments with commercial and operational expectations.
  • Ensure the team effectively assesses external working environments, supporting safe planning and delivery.
  • Monitor the H&S management system, identifying gaps and leading the development of improvements.
  • Drive the implementation of new initiatives, sharing best practice and embedding consistent ways of working.
  • Lead communication of new legislation, standards or working practices, ensuring your team cascades these clearly and effectively.
  • Champion our behavioural and cultural change programme - ThinkSafe, embedding it through your team and across operations.
  • Promote a positive reporting culture, ensuring Safety Observations and Hazard Reports are encouraged, captured and acted upon.

Qualifications

  • Significant advisory experience underpinned by strong knowledge of current HSE legislation.
  • A Level 6 Health & Safety Diploma (or currently working towards it), with appropriate professional membership such as IOSH, IIRSM or equivalent.
  • A NEBOSH Certification and CSCS Card.
  • Relevant industry experience (utilities, infrastructure, construction, or similar).
  • Creativity and originality in your approach, combined with solid Health & Safety expertise.
  • Previous managerial experience leading a team of H&S Advisors, or a strong desire and readiness to step into a leadership role.
  • Exceptional communication skills with high emotional intelligence, enabling you to adapt your message so it lands positively and has impact.
