We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (ECI) Engineer to join our team supporting nuclear decommissioning projects. The role involves leading the design, assessment, and delivery of ECI engineering solutions to ensure the safe and efficient decommissioning of legacy nuclear facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the development of ECI design solutions across all project phases – from concept and FEED to detailed design, implementation, and commissioning.
  • Ensure all engineering deliverables comply with nuclear safety, regulatory, and company standards.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers within the ECI discipline.
  • Conduct site surveys, develop specifications, produce technical documentation (e.g. drawings, schedules, I/O lists, cable routing diagrams).
  • Support the selection and integration of electrical and instrumentation equipment, including legacy system upgrades and interface management.
  • Collaborate with multidiscipline teams, including mechanical, civil, and process engineering, to develop integrated design solutions.
  • Perform design substantiation and calculations, including load studies, cable sizing, and instrument loop checks.
  • Manage interfaces with clients, stakeholders, and subcontractors, ensuring clear communication and alignment of objectives.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and handover activities as required.
  • Contribute to safety assessments (e.g. HAZOPs, SIL classification, ALARP justifications) and support regulatory submissions.

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it (e.g., through IET).
  • Significant experience in ECI design within the nuclear sector, preferably in decommissioning or legacy plant projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of nuclear industry standards (e.g., BS EN, IEC, IAEA) and site licence conditions.
  • Proficiency in design tools and software (e.g., AutoCAD, Amtech, ePlan, or similar).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Desirable:

  • Experience working on Sellafield, Magnox, or other UK decommissioning sites.
  • Familiarity with PLC/SCADA systems and industrial automation in a nuclear context.
