We are currently recruiting for an experienced Freelance Project Manager to oversee a programme of refurbishment and fit-out works across five school sites in Sheffield, commencing on 29th June. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Project Manager with a strong refurbishment background to lead multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring successful delivery across programme, quality, safety, and budget objectives. The initial contract will run for approximately 9 weeks, with further work upon completion. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to extend their contract and move onto additional projects across Yorkshire, Manchester, and the North Midlands.

The Role

You will take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of five live school refurbishment projects, managing site teams, subcontractors, and client relationships throughout the programme. Working closely with operational teams and stakeholders, you will ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards whilst maintaining programme deadlines during the school holiday period. This role will involve regular travel between project sites across Sheffield, providing leadership and support to Site Managers and subcontractors throughout the duration of the works.

The Projects

The refurbishment programme includes a variety of works across educational facilities, including:

  • Internal refurbishment works.
  • Full fit-out packages.
  • Plastering and decoration works.
  • Painting and finishing packages.
  • Joinery and carpentry works.
  • Building repairs and maintenance works.
  • General refurbishment and improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the delivery of five concurrent school refurbishment projects.
  • Providing leadership and support to Site Managers and site teams.
  • Ensuring projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Monitoring project progress and resolving operational issues.
  • Coordinating subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
  • Managing client relationships and attending progress meetings.
  • Conducting regular site visits and inspections.
  • Monitoring health and safety compliance across all projects.
  • Producing project reports and updates for senior management.
  • Managing project resources and programme delivery across multiple sites.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Project Manager within the construction, refurbishment, fit-out, or building sectors.
  • Experience overseeing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong refurbishment and fit-out project experience.
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
  • Strong communication and client-facing abilities.
  • SMSTS certification, CSCS and First Aid.
  • Enhanced DBS Certificate (essential).
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
