Overview

The City of Salford Community Stadium Limited (CosCos) owns and operates the 12,000 capacity Salford Community Stadium. The stadium is home to Sale Sharks and Salford Red Devils. It has recently acted as host venue for Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025. COSCOS Ltd is owned by Salford City Council. As well as the main stadium, the company owns the land around the stadium including two training pitches.

Job details

  • Grade: Grade AO (inclusive up to 37.5 hours per week) £ competitive
  • Holidays: 33 per year inclusive of Bank Holidays
  • Location of work: Salford Community Stadium
  • Directly responsible to: Stadium Grounds Manager and Deputy Stadium Grounds Manager
  • Hours of duty: 37.5 hours per week; flexible over 7 days. Actual hours determined by business needs as agreed with the Stadium Manager. This role includes regular evening and weekend work on Match Days.

Primary purpose

The Skilled Groundsman will play a key role in maintaining, preparing, and presenting the natural turf and surrounding external areas at Salford Community Stadium to the highest professional standards. The stadium hosts elite-level rugby league and rugby union fixtures, alongside training sessions, events, and community use. The role requires a high level of technical skill, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to turf management, health and safety, and presentation.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, prepare, and present the turf and surrounding external areas to high professional standards.
  • Work as directed by the Stadium Grounds Manager and Deputy Stadium Grounds Manager.

Skills, Knowledge and qualifications

  • Expertise: Relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Sports Turf Management (or equivalent).
  • PA1/PA2 or equivalent pesticide application certification.
  • Experience working on rugby league or rugby union pitches.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems and basic turf nutrition programmes.
  • Full UK driving licence.
