About the role: Join our Commercial Environmental Health team and broaden your regulatory experience in a fast‑paced, high‑profile setting. You’ll work with a wide range of businesses and communities, using your professional judgement to protect public health and improve the environment. We’re looking for people who are motivated, adaptable and keen to develop existing competencies while building new skills.
About you: confident across relevant areas of regulatory enforcement; comfortable working in challenging circumstances, including outbreak and accident investigations, complex workplace complaints, and work with Primary Authority Partners; an excellent communicator, able to explain requirements clearly and to negotiate and influence effectively; able to work under pressure and to organise and prioritise your workload to meet challenging deadlines; happy to work autonomously in an agile way, while also contributing as part of a high‑performing team.

Activities: You will contribute to the delivery of a full range of Commercial Environmental Health activities. The team’s work covers Food Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Public Health (including infectious disease control) and Primary Authority Partnership (PAP) work, across a broad range of environments and business types.
Key responsibilities: Manage and deliver food hygiene and standards inspections, applying professional judgement and building on knowledge and experience. Participate in occasional work and on‑call duty rota, including support for Port Health Service and partner organisations.
Qualifications: To be eligible for interview you must hold the necessary BSc, MSc or apprenticeship qualification and be either registered with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) or currently completing your Environmental Health Practitioner (EHP) portfolio (including applicants awaiting their professional discussion). Applicants should have relevant competency in the delivery of official food controls (within the meaning of the Food Law Code). You should be able to communicate effectively and to prioritise and organise your workload, including both casework and project work. You will need good IT skills, including confidence using the Microsoft Office suite. Training will be provided on specialist systems. Experience of IDOX Uniform is desirable but not essential.
