We are seeking a full‑time Applied Science Lecturer to contribute to excellence in teaching and learning through innovative practice. The successful postholder will create effective and stimulating learning opportunities for all students studying Science. This may involve delivery on a range of courses including GCSE Trilogy Science (Biology), Level 2 BTEC Applied Science, AS and A2 Biology and Level 3 BTEC Applied Science.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation.
- Contribute to the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and to the annual review.
- Stay aware of national developments in the subject area and update knowledge and skills annually.
- Plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons to achieve effective management of the learning process.
- Use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students and encourage independence and autonomy.
- Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued.
- Maintain procedures that promote and ensure appropriate behaviour, communication and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
- Set, mark and record work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies.
- Track all students’ progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies.
- Provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences.
- Be aware of external and internal assessment procedures and play an appropriate part in their implementation.
- Evaluate and improve own communication skills to maximise effective communication and overcome barriers.
- Liaise with the Assistant Dean to contribute to the design of programmes and teaching approaches that achieve high standards.
- Assist in the administration necessary to support teaching, learning and assessment within the subject area.
- Work with colleagues with relevant expertise to address additional Digital, English and Maths skills for development within the subject area.
- Review own professional development needs and participate fully in future training and development.
- Communicate and consult with parents, carers and students including Parent’s Evening, Welcome Evenings, events and open evenings.
- Ensure that all students in the subject area comply with College’s policies and procedures.
- Provide enrichment opportunities that are exciting, motivating and enhance the student experience.
- Ensure learners are supported with a well‑prepared VLE and resources for independent study.
- Have a knowledge and appreciation of the different needs of learners and effective strategies to ensure all learners make progress.
