You will be expected to create effective and stimulating learning opportunities for all students through high-quality teaching, learning and assessment. We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Lecturer in Hospitality and Catering to join our dedicated team in delivering high-quality education and training across Level 2 and Level 3 courses. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our students by providing engaging, practical, and theoretical instruction within a dynamic learning environment. The ideal candidate will be an innovative forward-thinking teacher, who is highly motivated to improve the chances of young people. You will be required to contribute to the ongoing development and review of the Hospitality and Catering curriculum to ensure alignment with industry standards and trends. Collaborate with colleagues to create a cohesive learning pathway that supports student progression and achievement.
Key Responsibilities
- To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of college life.
- To contribute to the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and to actively engage in the annual review.
- To be aware of national developments in subject area and update knowledge and skills on an annual basis.
- To plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons to achieve effective management of the learning process.
- Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students and encourage independence and student autonomy.
- Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued.
- Establish and maintain procedures with students which promote and maintain appropriate behaviour, communication and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
- To set and mark work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies, to record work carried out and assessment of same.
- To track all students’ progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies.
- To provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences.
- To be aware of external/internal assessment procedures and to play an appropriate part in their implementation.
- Evaluate and improve own communication skills to maximise effective communication and overcome barriers.
- To liaise with Head of School in contributing to the design of programmes and teaching approaches which will enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value added.
- To liaise with Head of School and curriculum teams in contributing to the administration necessary to support the teaching, learning and assessment within the subject area.
- To work with colleagues with relevant expertise to identify and address additional student English and Maths skills development in subject area.
- To review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development.
- To communicate and consult with parents, carers and students including Parent’s Evening, Welcome Evenings, events and open evenings.
- To ensure that all students in the subject area comply with College’s policies and procedures.
- To provide enrichment opportunities that are exciting, motivating and enhance the student experience.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Criteria
- Level 3 or above in the Hospitality, Catering or related field.
- Teaching qualification (e.g., Cert Ed, PGCE, DTLLS) or a commitment to obtaining one.
- Strong industry experience in the hospitality and catering sector, with a sound understanding of current trends and practices.
- Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete.
- Proven relevant experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery.
- Engaged in Continuing Professional Development.
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good understanding of curriculum development to meet the training needs of employers.
Desirable Criteria
- Professional qualification relevant to the subject area.
- Possess Assessor and IQA qualifications.
- Excellent computer literacy – ability to use the current IT programs of the College.
- Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves.
- Experience of resource-based learning.
- Membership of a relevant professional body.
- Experience of assessing students’ needs and planning curriculum for their benefit including Technology Enhanced Learning.
- Good understanding of quality assurance and improvement processes.
