The City of Liverpool College is seeking a Fashion Lecturer to contribute to achieving excellence in teaching and learning through innovative and high-quality practice within the specialist area of Fashion. You will be expected to create effective and stimulating learning opportunities for all students through outstanding teaching, learning and assessment. You will deliver across a range of levels, from Level 1 through to Level 3 Fashion programmes, embedding current and relevant industry practice and ensuring students develop the creative, technical and professional skills required for progression into further study or employment.
You will work as part of a dedicated and successful Creative Arts and Fashion team, contributing to the continued development of the Fashion curriculum. This includes supporting the growth of specialist fashion skills alongside the integration of creative digital practices, in order to meet the evolving needs of the fashion industry. You must be able to teach across a broad range of fashion related disciplines, including creative, technical and commercial areas, and utilise relevant digital tools to support learning. An understanding of contemporary industry practice is essential. An ability to teach across general Art and Design courses is also essential.
Key Responsibilities
- To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.
- To be aware of national developments in creative subject areas and update knowledge and skills on an annual basis.
- To plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons in order to achieve effective management of the learning process.
- Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students and encourage independence and student autonomy.
- Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued.
- To set and mark work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies, to record work carried out and assessment of same.
- To track all students’ progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies.
- To be aware of external/internal assessment procedures and to play an appropriate part in their implementation.
- To liaise with Managers in leading the design of programmes and teaching approaches which will enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value added.
- To liaise with Managers and curriculum teams in contributing to the administration necessary to support the teaching, learning and assessment within the subject area.
- To work with colleagues with relevant expertise to identify and address additional student English and Maths to review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development.
- To provide enrichment opportunities that are exciting, motivating and enhance the student experience.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential criteria:
- Educated to Level 6 or above in a relevant subject area, or equivalent professional/industry experience.
- Excellent computer literacy – ability to use the current IT programs of the College, including creative software such as Adobe Creative Cloud suite.
- Proven relevant experience of curriculum planning, development and delivery in creative subject area(s).
- Knowledge and understanding of Fashion provision across creative, technical and commercial disciplines, including both practical and digital processes.
- Engaged in Continuing Professional Development.
- Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete.
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves.
- Experience of assessing students’ needs and planning curriculum for their benefit including Technology Enhanced Learning, including in depth awareness of learning need and barriers.
- Good understanding of curriculum development to meet the training needs of employers local to the Liverpool City Region.
- Good understanding of quality assurance and improvement processes.
- Strong and active industry links within the local and wider Fashion sectors, with the ability to utilise these to enhance curriculum delivery and student opportunities.
Desirable criteria:
- A recognised Teaching qualification and vocational experience.
- Extensive knowledge of Art and Design and Fashion curricula across multiple awarding bodies, including UAL.
