A full time Recreation Programmer job is available with the City of Fort Worth Park & Recreation Department at Eugene McCray Community Center. Recreation Programmers work with all ages to help fulfil our mission of enriching the lives of our citizens through the provision of quality recreation programs and services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Sports Management, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Recreation, or a related field
- Two (2) years of experience in community center service or recreational programming experience
- Valid Driver's license
- Must pass physical and drug test
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient skills using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel applications
- Able to create marketing materials and experience using social media
- Experience developing, implementing and evaluating youth needs to create programs that provide character development
- Possess or have the ability to obtain certifications in Adult and Child CPR/AED and First Aid
- Certified Park & Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification
The Recreation Programmer job responsibilities include:
- Lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of recreational, educational, leisure, athletic programs, Senior programs, and life skill development community programs and events
- Create, coordinate and market community center recreational, educational, leisure, athletic programs and operations
- Coordinate assigned activities with outside agencies and the general public
- Maintain inventory controls and conduct surveys to monitor the overall effectiveness of center programs and events
- Hire staff and participate in the training and motivation of subordinate community center personnel
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for community events and programs
- Work with youth involved in the afterschool program, school break camps, and summer day camp
- Develop and implement mentorship programs aimed at providing guidance, support, and life skills to at-risk youth, fostering personal growth and positive community involvement through recreational and educational activities
- Heavy public and phone contact
- Other related duties as assigned

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises. Medium work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
