Teacher of Modern Studies with Criminology at Leith Academy. This full‑time, permanent position is part of the Social Subjects Faculty, covering S1 Social Subjects, S2 and S3 Modern Studies, N4/5 Modern Studies, N5 and Higher Sociology.
Compensation and Working Hours
Salary: £35,022 – £52,740. Hours: 35 per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver and assess lessons across the modern studies curriculum, including Social Subjects in S1, Modern Studies in S2–S3, N4/5 Modern Studies, N5 and Higher Sociology.
- Embed digital literacy into teaching using a variety of digital methodologies.
- Support students in developing a portfolio of skills, experiences and qualifications to prepare them for post‑school options.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Qualified teacher of modern studies or a related subject, with recent experience of teaching in a secondary school.
- Informed about modern study and sociology curriculum and able to provide challenging and creative learning experiences.
- Proven commitment to embedding digital literacy in the classroom.
- Required to join the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) scheme or provide an updated check. A recent overseas criminal record check is also required for those who have spent 3 months or more abroad in the last 5 years.
