An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered social worker to join the Major Trauma Service based at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. Trauma Service.
The post holder will be based within the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh but The post holder will work closely with colleagues of all disciplines, across community and acute sites to support the early identification and intervention for patient's requiring social work input. They will also have the ability to lead in the provision of social work expertise, offering advice and support to patients, their carers and other health care professionals.
Social Workers determine personal outcomes through a person-centered approach. We are looking to welcome an enthusiastic Social Worker with a keen interest in working with older people and vulnerable adults. About the service
The Edinburgh City Health & Social Care Partnership (EHSCP) is on a journey to transform the way in which Social Work delivers support and services. There is a transformation programme to ensure that we support adults and older adults with multiple and complex needs and with increasing levels of frailty to live as independently as possible.
We work effectively with our health colleagues and a broad range of partners to ensure that the most vulnerable within our city get the right service in the right place at the right time. We have a key priority to shift the balance of care and promote effective early intervention and preventative supports.
About you.
We are looking for a qualified Social Worker, who are committed to making a real difference to the patients within the Major Trauma Service at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh.The Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh, is one of the four Major Trauma Centres in Scotland, representing the Southeast of Scotland which will provide all aspects of trauma care, from the point of injury to rehabilitation.
We are looking for a Social Worker who is energetic, imaginative, creative, and resilient, who can make the best use of local resources. Reach into the community to facilitate the safe and timely discharge of patients. Working within a multidisciplinary team ensuring equity and consistency in social work provision for all major trauma patients admitted to the major trauma centre across Critical Care, Department of Clinical Neurosciences, and the new dedicated Major Trauma Ward. Supporting patients, their families, and carers, to balance the complex areas of risk and need with choice and rights. Trauma informed, relationships and strengths based social work is at the heart of our practice. We use the Three Conversations approachto understand what really matters to people and families, what needs to happen next for them, and how we can be most useful. We also have the Social Care (Self-directed Support) (Scotland) Act 2013 at the heart of our practice, to provide a range of choices to people for how they are provided with the support they need.
You will undertake a range of statutory tasks including:
- Assessments and support planning
- Risk assessment and risk management
- Carers’ assessments
- Duties under the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 and The Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000
You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and will support adults , their families and carers to balance the complex areas of risk and need with choice and rights. You will also be able to provide advice, support and guidance and if necessary, intervention should an adult be at risk of harm and in need of protection. You will work in supportive, well-established teams and have regular supervision and training.
Requirements
Applicants should be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council on the 'Social Worker' part of the Register and hold a qualification that is recognised by the SSSC as being equivalent to the Diploma in Social Work (DipSW). The right candidate will also have an in-depth knowledge of Adult Social Care, Adult Support & Protection, and other statutory legislation.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. Anunconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
