Pupil Support Assistant – Pirniehall Primary School

Salary: £25,905-£26,111 (pro rata for part time and sessional)

Hours: 26.82 per week, 39 weeks sessional

Pirniehall Primary is a non-denominational school situated in the North West of Edinburgh and is part of the Craigroyston Learning Community. The school currently has a roll of 240 pupils, with 9 classes covering the stages P1-P7 and a further 24 nursery children attending full-time.

Responsibilities

  • We are seeking a motivated and experienced Pupil Support Assistant who will bring a positive and enthusiastic approach to our school. Experience of ensuring positive outcomes for children with additional support needs would be desirable.
  • The successful candidate will be an integral part of our team supporting, encouraging and engaging children throughout our school.

Context and facilities

Our school building has spacious classrooms with flexible space for active learning, a dining hall, gymnasium, library, staff base, and SfL base. The school also makes use of available spaces to support health and wellbeing groups and nurture spaces.

The leadership team consists of a Head Teacher, two Depute Heads, two Principal Teachers, and a part time Business Manager. We have a team of excellent Pupil Support Assistants who provide support for learning, play and inclusion. Our pupils also have Health and Wellbeing Support in school with access to an Art Therapist, Play Therapist, and School Counsellor.

The school shares the campus with St. David\’s Primary School. The school utilise shared spaces such as the dining hall and playground areas and provide a number of opportunities for children to learn together.

The school is situated in an area of multiple socio-economic deprivation with most of the pupils residing in SIMD 1 and 2. The school has a strong collegiate ethos which promotes partnership working with parents, carers, partners and the wider community. Pirniehall Primary promotes a positive and nurturing learning culture, where the needs of the child are placed at the heart of our schools work.

Compliance and recruitment

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
