Principal Teacher – Maybury Primary School

Location: West of Edinburgh
Hours: 35 per week
Salary: £57,498

Maybury Primary School is a newly opened school located in the west of Edinburgh, operating from August 2024. It offers a primary education from P1 to P7, along with an Early Learning and Childcare setting that opened in January 2025. The campus includes modern, flexible learning spaces for up to 630 learners and a community hub featuring a medical centre. Sustainability and outdoor learning are integral to the building design and teaching approach.

Responsibilities

The Principal Teacher will:

  • Lead and support the senior leadership team in the development and implementation of the school’s vision and strategy;
  • Champion inclusive learning practices across all stages of the school;
  • Drive whole‑school improvement initiatives to raise the quality of learning and teaching;
  • Motivate, guide and mentor staff in a growing school environment;
  • Collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including children, parents, colleagues and external partners, to promote continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Extensive teaching experience across all primary stages;
  • Demonstrated experience leading inclusive approaches to learning;
  • Proven track record of leading whole‑school improvement;
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills in a developing school context;
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement abilities;
  • Positive, supportive interactions with children, colleagues, parents and partners.

Employment Conditions

This role is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more abroad within the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both of these pre‑employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
