Kaimes is a specialist secondary school in the South East of Edinburgh for young people with autism and complex additional support needs. We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled practitioner to join our leadership team and help take forward the next stage of our school’s improvement journey.

At Kaimes, we want every learner to experience ambitious, meaningful learning and to develop the communication, skills and independence that matter for their future. Our learners have diverse strengths and needs. This calls for thoughtful planning, strong relationships and a willingness to keep learning from our practice.

The PT role at Kaimes School is a varied role with a key pastoral leadership remit, working with learners, families, staff and partner services to coordinate support and promote wellbeing. The successful candidate will also take responsibility for key operational and improvement areas. They will support colleagues, use evidence and self-evaluation to identify next steps, and help build consistent practice across the school.

We are looking for a strong practitioner who is ready to develop their leadership. You will be approachable, organised and able to build positive working relationships. You will be willing to reflect on your practice, learn alongside colleagues and make thoughtful decisions in a busy school environment. Above all, you will hold high expectations for young people with complex additional support needs and recognise the many ways in which they can achieve.

Our school values are Ambition, Respect, Independence and Teamwork. We welcome applications from candidates who share those values and are ready to make a significant contribution to the life and leadership of Kaimes.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditioned offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workforce where everyone feels valued and able to be their best. We particularly encourage applications from women for senior roles, as well as people from minority ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities or neurodivergent people, care experienced people, carers and LGBT+ people across all levels of the organisation, all of whom are currently underrepresented. All applicants will be considered fairly based on skills and experience. Disabled and care-experienced applicants who meet the minimum job criteria will be guaranteed an interview.
