Hours: 35 per week, 52 weeks per year
We are looking for an inspiring, enthusiastic and reflective Principal Teacher to join our extended leadership team at Canaan Lane Primary School.
Canaan Lane Primary School is a new and growing school in the southeast of Edinburgh. Our modern, flexible and creative learning spaces support up to 420 learners, alongside our Early Learning and Childcare setting, which provides spaces for up to 80 children across term-time and full-year provision.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our leadership team at an important stage in the development of our school. Working closely with the Head Teacher and Depute Head Teacher, the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping and developing our curriculum and strengthening learning, teaching and assessment across the school.
We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic practitioner who is passionate about excellent learning and teaching and who can inspire and support others. The successful candidate will help us to develop a dynamic, inclusive and engaging curriculum, champion evidence-informed approaches to pedagogy and support colleagues to ensure that learning meets the needs of all our learners.
The role will combine curriculum leadership with a strong connection to classroom practice. The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing development of our curriculum, strengthen learning and teaching, support professional learning and use evidence and self-evaluation to improve outcomes for learners.
The successful candidate will have:
- excellent pedagogical knowledge and exemplary classroom practice
- proven leadership experience and a track record of leading improvement
- experience of leading curriculum development
- a strong understanding of assessment, progression and meeting the needs of all learners
- the skills to motivate, support, challenge and lead colleagues
- a commitment to inclusion, equity and adaptive teaching
- confidence in using evidence and self-evaluation to improve outcomes for learners
- excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with children, families, colleagues and partners

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
