The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education. We’re committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work. We recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

As a successful growing city, our school population is increasing and we are investing in our schools to meet our future needs. These range from modern new builds to older Victorian classic buildings. We currently have 23 secondary, 88 primary and 12 special schools.

Making sure our children and young people experience the highest quality of learning and teaching in Edinburgh is one of our highest priorities. We firmly believe that all teachers in our schools are leaders of learning and we offer a huge range of professional learning opportunities to help you do this — whether you’re brand new to the profession, developing your career or looking for further leadership experience.

You will be encouraged to contribute to the wider life and work of the school, so why not turn that love you have of skiing or creative writing into an activity that young people can take part in beyond the classroom? You will be encouraged to be the best you can because we want our learners to be the best they can.

As an employee of the City of Edinburgh Council, benefits on offer include support with working flexibly, savings on the high street and at home (childcare vouchers, premium benefits card) and travel savings (bike to work, season ticket loan).
