Overview

Outdoor Education Instructor — Lagganlia Outdoor Centre, part of the City of Edinburgh\’s Outdoor Learning Team. Based near Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park. Salary: £33,287 – £39,129 (pro-rata for part time). Hours: 32 per week.

Lagganlia is looking to add to its permanent instructor team. We have a dedicated and loyal staff team and this is a rare and great opportunity to join a brilliant group of professional outdoor educators. Lagganlia Centre for Outdoor Learning is part of the City of Edinburgh\’s Outdoor Learning Team.

About Lagganlia and the Role

Lagganlia Centre for Outdoor Learning provides outdoor learning residentials for the young people of Edinburgh. We have access to a range of wilderness environments to support activities such as skiing/snowboarding, sailing, canoeing, mountaineering, rafting, climbing, kayaking, canyoning and mountain biking, plus onsite facilities for archery, orienteering, skiing and high ropes. The annual programme includes four weeks of dedicated staff training covering technical, educational and whole-day school visits. The role involves designing and delivering tailored programmes with the visiting school, and taking full ownership of activity and location decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver outdoor learning programmes tailored to visiting Edinburgh schools; instructors have full ownership of the activity and location choices.
  • Provide a wide range of adventurous experiences (ski/snowboard, sail, canoe, mountaineer, raft climb, kayak, canyon and mountain bike) and onsite activities (archery, orienteering, skiing, high ropes).
  • Support the integration with Scotland\’s Curriculum for Excellence and contribute to Learning for Sustainability targets.
  • Participate in four weeks of annual staff training covering technical, educational and whole-day school visits.

Qualifications

  • A wide range of outdoor National Governing Body (NGB) qualifications is essential.
  • Experience delivering Curriculum for Excellence; ability to adapt programmes to achieve visiting schools’ deliverable outcomes.
  • PVG scheme or willingness to join; pre-employment checks will be completed prior to start. If applicable, Overseas Criminal Record Check may be required for time spent outside the UK in the last 5 years.
