Facilities Assistant – Niddrie/Craigmillar/Inch area of Edinburgh

Salary: £26,806 – £27,032 (pro‑rated for part‑time). Hours: 0 per week (casual contract). This role offers flexibility, allowing you to pick up shifts that suit your availability while supporting our service during busy periods or staff absence.

As a Facilities Technician with the City of Edinburgh Council, you will be a key member of our Facilities Management team. You will deliver a vital janitorial service across our estate to ensure our properties are a safe place to work or learn in. You will enjoy secure and flexible employment with above‑market rates and excellent conditions, while balancing family, caring or studying commitments.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform day‑to‑day FM, janitorial and DIY operations across one or more buildings, including small repairs, general maintenance, reactive cleaning, supporting moves, and basic security functions.
  • Equipment and furniture maintenance.
  • Building maintenance and services.
  • Security of premises and grounds.
  • Grounds maintenance.
  • Cleaning and tidying.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate must join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. An Overseas Criminal Record Check is required for individuals who have spent continuously 3 months or more abroad in the last 5 years. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to satisfactory outcomes of both checks.
