James Gillespie’s High School is seeking a Teacher of English on a fixed term contract until 29/06/2027. The salary ranges from £35,022 to £52,740 for 35 hours per week.

Our campus includes:
- A main teaching block (Malala Building)
- A state-of-the-art sports complex (Eric Liddell Sports Building)
- An impressive music and drama suite (Muriel Spark Building)
- Further teaching accommodation in our grade 1 listed building, Brunstfield House
- A newly refurbished annexe (Darroch) at Gillespie Street
Staff will regularly travel between the two sites. Candidates should be enthusiastic and have demonstrated contributions to department and whole school activities in previous posts.
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. An Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required for individuals who have spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years.
An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory. Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
