Salary: £30,188 - £34,452 (plus additional working payments depending on shifts)

Join Edinburgh City Council’s Roads Operations team keeping the capital’s streets safe and looking their best. You’ll carry out vital repairs and upgrades across the city’s road and footpath network.

Skilled Roadworkers are key members of the Roads Operations Team. If you want to be able to say ‘I did that’, ‘I made a difference’ and ‘I made my mark', join our team and play a central role in leading and shaping the success of Roads Operations, delivering road and street maintenance and improvements and also keeping people moving safely about the City during Winter Weather.

We are looking for Skilled Roadworkers with drainage, surfacing and/or slabbing/kerbing experience in a roads environment to join our existing squads city-wide and ensure our streets are maintained to the highest standards. Successful applicants will have potential opportunity to increase earnings by working occasional overtime and winter maintenance.

Based at our Bankhead Depot, Roads Operations offers an environment in which workers are valued and respected with a key focus on training and development of our staff to ensure they can undertake multiple different roads operations and develop their skills base.

You will undertake a range of services and activities, including Surfacing, drainage, Hardland Scaping & carriageway marking. You will drive vehicles appropriate to the licence type held and be responsible for the vehicle and undertake appropriate checks and paperwork. You will act as a first point of contact with the local community providing advice ensuring the highest possible standards of customer care are maintained.

Full UK Driving C1 Licence is essential.

The post holder:

  • Shall be required to demonstrate an ability to work with handheld technology
  • Shall demonstrate sound knowledge of equipment and machinery used within roads operations
  • Will have experience of Drainage, hard land Scape, Carriageway marking or Surfacing
  • Will be able to work with the minimum of supervision and prioritise workloads ensuring relevant standards and timescales are met
  • Will ensure that resources allocated are maintained and used appropriately
  • Will be able to communicate with members of the public to advise on service-related issues and provide feedback to management

This post requires a minimum C1 Driving Licence to drive vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes or a commitment to obtain that licence within 6 months of employment.
