Overview

Early Years Practitioner – fixed term until 26/06/2026 at Davidson’s Mains Primary Nursery School, Edinburgh.

Salary: £29,173‑£33,287 (pro‑rata for part time and sessional).

Hours: 24 per week, 39 weeks sessional. Working pattern: Monday to Friday between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm, operating on rolling shift patterns.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high‑quality early years care and early learning to children aged 2‑5.
  • Work within the defined shift pattern and attend the required working hours.
  • Collaborate with parents, staff and the wider community to support children’s development.
  • Maintain a safe and nurturing classroom environment in line with the school’s philosophy.

Qualifications

  • Eligible for registration (without conditions) with the SSSC as a Practitioner in Day Care of Children.
  • Practice qualification as noted in the attached job profile.
  • Required to join the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.
  • Overseas Criminal Record Check may be required for those who have spent continuous periods of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years.
