Overview

As a Driver Attendant with the City of Edinburgh Council, you will be a key member of our Facilities Management team. You will deliver a vital cleaning service across our estate within the public conveniences. Major duties and tasks

  • Cleaning of public toilets, including surfaces, floors, fixtures and fittings to ensure facilities are clean, hygienic and serviceable.
  • Empty bins and dispose of waste appropriately.
  • Undertake reactive cleaning in response to anti-social behaviour, vandalism, accidental spillages as required, including the safe disposal of sharps (syringes) following safe working procedures.
  • Drive vehicles appropriate to licence type held; conduct daily vehicle checks; present vehicles to workshops when required; complete associated paperwork.
  • Open and close public conveniences at allocated times; hold keys and manage access as required.
  • Collect and distribute stores to PC locations (cleaning materials and consumables); replenish consumables (toilet tissue, hand towels, soap) regularly.
  • Carry out visual inspections of facilities; undertake minor repairs and maintenance to buildings and fittings, including replacing light bulbs/tubes.
  • Identify and report repairs, maintenance issues and incidents of vandalism to the line manager; recommend closure of facility for health and safety reasons while repairs are initiated.
  • Ensure duties are carried out following safe working practices to protect the health and safety of staff and the public.
  • Deal with public interactions and anti-social behaviour; may contact emergency services and other agencies as required.
  • Maintain daily paperwork (daily worksheets, repair books and incident reports where applicable).
  • Occasionally respond to weather emergencies (ice, snow, flooding, gritting).
  • Facilities Management has overall responsibility for keyholding to enable opening and closing of buildings; you may be required to be a key holder to fulfil these tasks, including operation of security alarm systems and ensuring premises are left secure.

Pre-employment checks

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. An overseas criminal record check may be required if the candidate has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years. An unconditional offer of employment is subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annual increases until the top of the range. Happy to talk flexible working.
