Salary: £26,205 - £26,525 (pro‑rata for part‑time and sessional). Hours: 10 h per week – 52 weeks. Monday–Friday: 7 am to 9 am. Permanent part‑time position.

As a cleaner with the City of Edinburgh Council, you will be a key member of our Facilities Management team, delivering essential cleaning services across our estate to ensure safe and clean environments for work and learning.

Major Tasks / Job Activities:

  • Empty litter and recycling bins
  • Clean all surfaces, internal glass, floors, furniture, fixtures and fittings within a group of buildings
  • Clean all sanitary areas, toilets and showers and replenish washroom consumables
  • Emergency and reactive cleaning as required (e.g. remove graffiti, body fluid, accidental spillages)
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment used in duties
  • Support cleaning tasks across other buildings where required
  • Deliver to cleaning specifications and cooperate with performance measurement to meet agreed standards
  • Key‑holder duties, including operating security alarm systems, closing windows and doors, switching off lights, and ensuring premises are safe and secure when closing

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Previous cleaning experience preferred but not essential
  • Must be able to join the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo an annual PVG update check; overseas Criminal Record Check required for any period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years
  • Must be able to meet the outcome of both pre‑employment checks
  • Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle may be required for certain roles
