Salary: £26,205 – £26,525 (pro‑rata for part‑time and sessional)

Hours: 10 per week, 38 weeks sessional

Working pattern: Monday – Friday, 16:00 – 18:00

About the role

As a cleaner with the City of Edinburgh Council, you will be a key member of the Facilities Management team, delivering a vital cleaning service across our estate to ensure our properties are safe and clean places to work or learn. Major tasks / job activities

  • Empty litter and recycling bins
  • Clean all surfaces, internal glass, floors, furniture, fixtures and fittings within a group of buildings
  • Clean all sanitary areas, toilets and showers; replenish washroom consumables
  • Emergency and reactive cleaning (e.g., removal of graffiti, body fluid spillages, accidental spillages)
  • Care for and maintain cleanliness of all equipment used in cleaning duties
  • Support cleaning tasks across other buildings where required
  • Deliver to the cleaning specification requirements and cooperate with performance measurement so that overall standards are met

Facilities Management has overall responsibility for keyholding to enable opening and closing of buildings serviced. As part of the duties of a Cleaning Operative and in this role, you will be required to be a key holder, operating security alarm systems, closing windows and doors, switching off lights, and ensuring premises are secure when closing.

Required qualifications / checks

  • Regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007
  • Preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check
  • Individuals who have spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years must provide an Overseas Criminal Record Check
  • Unconditional offer of employment and commencement will be subject to satisfactory outcomes of both checks
