Citation Group is a collective of businesses dedicated to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises across a range of essential services. Our mission is to ease these pressures by providing expertise, guidance, and solutions that enable business leaders to focus on strategic success.

The Citation Group is seeking a senior contract designer who is genuinely obsessed with AI — what it can do, how it’s reshaping design workflows, and how visual content gets discovered in multimodal and LLM-driven environments.

The role

This is a short-term, high-impact role focused on scaling structured visual asset production for our key brands while exploring and embedding AI-led design workflows that challenge traditional ways of working. Working closely with our Head of Creative & Design — and alongside an already highly capable and skilled in-house design team — you’ll bring outside-in thinking to evolve how we design, produce and scale visual content.

You’ll transform complex knowledge into machine-readable visual assets — from diagrams and infographics to process flows and data visualisations — accelerating delivery while leaving behind design frameworks and workflows that outlast the contract.

  • Design and produce high-quality digital assets (e.g. flowcharts, comparison tables, process diagrams, data visualisations) that support LLM-focused content and multimodal search visibility.
  • Collaborate closely with content and copywriters to define the most effective visual format for each topic.
  • Structure assets for machine readability — including accessible text layers, semantic labelling, alt-text and structured captioning.
  • Ensure all assets align to structured data and search best practice (e.g. SVG optimisation, indexable text layers).
  • Maintain and evolve The Citation Group’s visual identity across new digital formats — balancing brand consistency with innovation.
  • Apply strong UX principles to ensure visuals enhance on-page experience, engagement and information clarity.
  • Research, test and implement generative AI tools (e.g. Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, Figma AI capabilities) to accelerate asset creation.
  • Develop scalable AI-assisted design workflows without compromising quality or compliance.
  • Prototype new visual formats rapidly — using performance data and LLM surfacing as feedback loops.
  • Establish quality assurance processes to review, refine and approve AI-assisted outputs.
  • Document emerging tools, workflows and best practices — supporting wider adoption across design and content teams.
  • Act as an internal advocate for AI-enhanced design capability and innovation.

About you

  • Strong experience in digital, graphic or UX design, with a portfolio of high-quality web-focused assets.
  • Demonstrable experience creating infographics, diagrams, illustrations or data visualisations.
  • Strong understanding of multimodal search and how visual assets contribute to discoverability.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard tools (e.g. Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Solid grounding in UX/UI principles and accessibility standards.
  • Experience designing for web performance — including responsive layouts and asset optimisation.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of varied design requests in a fast-paced commercial environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills — comfortable working with technical writers and subject matter experts.

Ideal Profile

  • A senior UX designer energised by experimenting with emerging tools and rethinking how great design gets made.
  • A respectful disruptor — able to challenge existing workflows while building trust with an already strong in-house team.
  • A systems builder — focused on creating scalable frameworks, not just delivering one-off assets.
  • Motivated by impact — balancing speed, quality and innovation to elevate how our brands show up in AI and search environments.

Here’s a taste of the perks we roll out for our extraordinary team members:

  • 25 Days of Holiday + Bank holidays
  • Birthday Bliss: Enjoy your birthday with a day off.
  • Post-Wedding Bliss: Extra weeks of holiday for newlyweds.
  • Growing Families: Vouchers and special perks for expectant parents.
  • Healthcare cash plan: Private healthcare for your well-being.
