The Church of Scotland is looking for a Net Zero Implementation Director to lead the delivery of its commitment to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2030. This is a unique opportunity to take on a national leadership role, driving forward a bold and urgent sustainability agenda across a large and diverse organisation.
Working in close partnership with colleagues across all entities of the Church, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for the Net Zero strategy and its implementation. The role will involve inspiring, influencing and supporting stakeholders at all levels to ensure a coordinated and high-impact approach to achieving absolute carbon emissions reduction.
The Net Zero Implementation Director will act as the Church’s principal advisor on all aspects of sustainability. The postholder will support compliance with UK climate policy and best practice, while developing and delivering clear, measurable pathways towards Net Zero. A key aspect of the role will be aligning the Church’s mission with its operational practices, embedding sustainability into governance, decision-making and day-to-day activities.
The ideal candidate will be a credible and experienced leader with a strong track record in sustainability, climate strategy or a related field. They will bring excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, along with a deep understanding of UK climate policy and carbon reduction frameworks. The ability to work across a complex and multi-layered organisation is essential, as is a strategic mindset combined with a practical, delivery-focused approach.
