The Cleaning Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring Liverpool Cathedral is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation. Working closely with the Operations Manager and leading the cleaning team, the Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily cleaning operations across the Cathedral, including offices, food outlets, retail areas, and event spaces. This role combines hands‑on cleaning duties with team leadership, scheduling, and quality control, ensuring the Cathedral is presented in the best possible way.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership & Coordination
    • Supervise and support the cleaning team, ensuring all tasks are completed to a high standard and in a timely manner.
    • Allocate daily duties and manage rotas to ensure adequate coverage across all areas.
    • Provide training and guidance to new and existing cleaning staff on procedures, equipment use, and health & safety.
    • Monitor performance and provide feedback to team members, escalating concerns to the Operations Manager as needed.
  • Operational Duties
    • Oversee the cleaning of all Cathedral and diocesan buildings, ensuring consistency and quality.
    • Ensure all glazed areas, toilet facilities, and public spaces are cleaned and maintained daily.
    • Coordinate the laundering, drying, and ironing of liturgical linens and vestments.
    • Operate and supervise the use of mechanical cleaning equipment such as buffing machines and floor scrubbers.
    • Ensure waste bins are emptied and rubbish is removed to designated collection points.
  • Event Support
    • Plan and manage cleaning operations before and after events, concerts, and other activities to ensure the Cathedral is presented at its best.
    • Liaise with other departments to understand event schedules and cleaning requirements.
  • Other Duties
    • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role as reasonably required by the Operations Manager or Cathedral leadership.
  • Health and Safety
    • Maintain safe and secure environments for staff, visitors, and contractors; report hazards, defects or security issues to the Operations Manager or Team Leader.
    • Adhere to personal health and safety responsibilities while supporting others.
    • Follow all safety procedures.
