The Diocese of Leeds is seeking a committed and inspiring Racial Justice Learning Enabler to advance racial justice across our churches, schools and communities. Following the Church of England’s landmark report from Lament to Action and in response to the urgent national call to tackle racism, the Diocese has been awarded £735,000 through the National Racial Justice Grant Programme. This significant investment strengthens our Advancing Anti‑racism Programme (AARP), which is built around three interconnected strands: Advancing Learning, Advancing Engagement, and Advancing Ministry.
These strands sit at the heart of our integrated approach to ministry, mission and school support across one of the Church of England’s largest and most diverse dioceses.
About the Programme
The Advancing Anti‑racism Programme builds on existing diocesan strengths while expanding into areas where further development is needed. The work is supported by strong senior leadership, including two UKME/GMH Area Bishops with national influence in racial justice and intercultural ministry, and another Area Bishop with deep experience in interfaith engagement and intersectionality. Partnership working is central to the programme’s success. You will collaborate closely with:
- The Diocesan Education Team
- Wellsprings Together, our partner charity supporting grassroots community engagement
- Researchers, practitioners and specialists across the region
- Other dioceses and national Church of England teams
The programme is outward‑facing, action‑oriented and rooted in mission. It includes community projects, school initiatives, research partnerships and ministry development, including work with Hong Kong‑ers and diverse congregations across the diocese.
About the Role
As Racial Justice Learning Enabler, you will play a key role in delivering the learning and ministry elements of the AARP. You will:
- Serve as a learning enabler, working collaboratively with the Racial Justice Lead Officer
- Develop, enable and deliver programme learning and ministry activities
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and deliver anti‑racism courses and training (online and in‑person), working with national and diocesan learning specialists
- Lead the development of an anti‑racism toolkit for parishes, tailored to the Diocese of Leeds
- Collate, develop and promote racial justice resources for discipleship, worship and key events such as Racial Justice Sunday and Black History Month
- Facilitate research partnerships, supporting studies into racism, intersectionality and lived experience
- Support the development of intercultural ministry and mission, particularly through the diocesan intercultural ministry learning community
- Stay informed about racial justice initiatives across the Church of England
- Work collaboratively with the Diocesan Education Team and Wellsprings Together to ensure cohesive delivery of programme elements relating to schools and community engagement.

The package includes a competitive salary, flexi-time scheme, an 8% non-contributory pension with an additional 5% matched contributions, hybrid working (50%), Cycle to work scheme, EV salary sacrifice scheme and 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays and four customary days a year (between Christmas and New Year).
