St Augustine of Hippo, Grimsby is seeking an enthusiastic and prayerful priest to join us as our next Oversight Minister (House for Duty). This is an exciting opportunity to lead a well-established Society parish with a strong Anglo-Catholic identity, a rich liturgical life, and a congregation committed to worship, mission and service.
About Us
St Augustine's is a registered parish of The Society under the Patronage of Saint Wilfrid and Saint Hilda, receiving pastoral and sacramental oversight through the Bishop of Richborough. We are rooted in the Catholic faith and order of the Church of England and are committed to offering worship that is reverent, beautiful and faithful. Our Parish Mass, choral tradition, devotional life and pastoral ministry form the heart of our witness in this place.
Our church has been described as a "powerhouse of worship and prayer", where the beauty of holiness is celebrated through liturgy, music and sacramental life. Alongside this, we seek to share the love of Christ with our community through hospitality, outreach, education and service.
About you
We are seeking a priest who will cherish and nurture the parish's Catholic tradition whilst helping us discern and embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. Rooted in prayer, Scripture and the sacramental life of the Church, you will be someone who can lead worship with reverence and confidence, enabling others to encounter Christ through the beauty of liturgy and the rhythms of parish life.
You will be a visible and approachable pastor, able to build strong relationships both within the congregation and across the wider community. We hope to find someone who takes delight in accompanying people in their faith journey, who values pastoral presence and who understands the importance of being a priest not only within the church building but throughout the parish.
Our new Oversight Minister will bring a heart for mission and evangelism, helping us to engage new generations, deepen our links with local schools and community organisations, and share the good news of Jesus Christ with confidence and compassion. We are looking for someone who can recognise and encourage the gifts of others, developing lay ministry and fostering a culture in which all members of the church are equipped to participate in God's mission.
As a Society parish, we seek a priest who is a member of The Society and committed to its theological convictions, able to provide sacramental and pastoral leadership within the Catholic tradition that shapes our common life. At the same time, we value the Church of England's commitment to mutual flourishing and seek someone who will work generously and collaboratively with colleagues from across the breadth of church traditions in the service of the Gospel.
