The Diocese of York is a vibrant community of nearly 600 churches and 121 schools, serving 1.5 million people with a shared vision to Live Christ’s Story. We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Executive Assistant to support the Bishop of Whitby, the Right Reverend Barry Hill, in his dynamic local and national ministry.

The Bishop oversees the Archdeaconry of Cleveland, a diverse area stretching from Middlesbrough to the Vale of Pickering. He leads on key diocesan priorities including growing younger and more diverse, chairs the Diocesan Board of Education, and contributes nationally to initiatives such as Thy Kingdom Come.

About The Role

This is a varied and fast-paced role providing high level executive and administrative support to the Bishop. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing the Bishop’s diary, travel, and events
  • Overseeing office systems, budget and correspondence
  • Administering clergy vacancies and appointments
  • Coordinating visits and liaising with clergy, church leaders, and public bodies
  • Supporting communications, meetings, and national responsibilities

You will be based in a dedicated, well-equipped office in the Bishop’s home in Stainton, with beautiful surroundings and free parking. Some flexibility for remote or out-of-hours work is available, and occasional travel within the Diocese may be required.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Highly organised, adaptable, and self-motivated
  • Experienced in a busy office environment
  • A confident communicator with excellent attention to detail
  • Discreet and able to handle sensitive information
  • Familiar with the Christian faith (Anglican understanding desirable)
