As a Church Disclosure Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring requests are managed effectively and in accordance with legal, safeguarding and governance requirements.

Acting as a Disclosure Officer, you will be responsible for reviewing, assessing and disclosing information in line with agreed procedures, whilst maintaining strong relationships with dioceses, cathedrals, parishes, safeguarding teams, religious communities and national Church institutions.

Job Description

As a Church Disclosure Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring requests are managed effectively and in accordance with legal, safeguarding and governance requirements.

Acting as a Disclosure Officer, you will be responsible for reviewing, assessing and disclosing information in line with agreed procedures, whilst maintaining strong relationships with dioceses, cathedrals, parishes, safeguarding teams, religious communities and national Church institutions.

Working at the centre of a complex network of Church bodies, you will act as a key point of contact for requests received through the Scheme, ensuring they are assessed, routed appropriately and progressed to completion in a timely and survivor-centred way.

The role combines information request coordination, stakeholder engagement, information management and disclosure decision-making, requiring excellent organisational skills, sound judgement and the ability to work confidently with sensitive information.

Responsibilities

  • Manage information requests relating to the Redress Scheme from receipt through to completion, ensuring they are progressed efficiently and within agreed timescales.
  • Receive and assess information requests to determine the appropriate route for action and identify the Church bodies required to respond.
  • Working with a range of stakeholders to coordinate information requests across dioceses, cathedrals, parishes, safeguarding teams, religious communities and national Church institutions to obtain relevant information.
  • Act as a key point of contact for stakeholders, building effective working relationships and providing guidance on Redress Scheme processes and information requirements.
  • Serve as a Disclosure Officer for the Redress Scheme, reviewing information received and making informed decisions regarding its relevance and disclosure.
  • Manage the collection, review, collation and disclosure of information in accordance with Scheme procedures, UK GDPR, Data Protection legislation and information governance requirements.
  • Liaise with Church bodies to ensure information requests are understood, responded to appropriately and completed to the required standard.
  • Exercise sound judgement when handling sensitive, confidential and complex information, escalating risks and issues where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate and auditable records of requests, decisions, actions and outcomes.
  • Create and deliver a process to ensure information requests are progressed within timescales monitoring performance, identifying delays, risks or barriers and working proactively to resolve issues.
  • Produce management information and reports on activity, performance, emerging themes and risks.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and contribute to the development of processes, guidance and ways of working.
  • Support the identification of themes, learning and good practice arising from Redress Scheme activity.
  • Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with relevant legislation, safeguarding principles, Church policies and governance requirements, contributing to a survivor-centred and legally compliant service.

Qualifications

We are looking for an individual with excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills, who is confident working with sensitive information and complex casework.

You will have experience of coordinating requests through to completion, exercising sound judgement when reviewing and handling personal data, and ensuring information is managed appropriately and securely.

As a Disclosure Officer, you will be responsible for assessing, managing and disclosing information in line with agreed processes, making a strong understanding of UK GDPR, Data Protection legislation and information governance principles essential.

Above all, you will demonstrate professionalism, integrity and discretion, contributing to a survivor-centred approach at all times.

Essential

  • Knowledge / Experience
  • Experience of managing sensitive casework, enquiries or complex requests through to completion.
  • Experience of reviewing, handling and disclosing sensitive personal information.
  • Good working knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection legislation and information governance principles.
  • Experience of coordinating activity across multiple stakeholders, organisations or agencies.
  • Experience of maintaining accurate records and managing information in a confidential environment.
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and the importance of survivor-centred approaches.
  • Strong written and analytical skills, with the ability to prepare clear, accurate and balanced documentation.

Qualifications & Training

  • Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to information governance, data protection, case management, safeguarding or disclosure management.
  • Willingness to undertake training required for the role, including safeguarding, data protection and Redress Scheme processes.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the structures and governance of the Church of England.
  • Experience of working within a Church body, safeguarding environment, legal setting or other regulated organisation.
  • Understanding of information disclosure processes, records management, subject access requests or information rights legislation.
  • Experience of working with dioceses, cathedrals, parishes or national Church institutions.
  • Knowledge of the Church of England Redress Scheme and its aims.
  • Disclosure officer experience/qualification
