The Lambeth Palace communications team supports the Archbishop of Canterbury in their ministry across the Church of England, the nation and the worldwide Anglican Communion. We are responsible for helping communicate the Archbishop’s teaching, preaching, pastoral ministry, public engagement and leadership of the Church through media, digital communications and strategic communications activity.

As Digital Communications Manager, you will take day‑to‑day responsibility for the Archbishop’s digital channels and website, producing compelling content and helping audiences engage with the life and ministry of the Archbishop and the wider work of Lambeth Palace. You will create and manage digital content across social media platforms, video, photography, web and email, helping ensure our communications are engaging, accurate, timely and appropriate for a wide range of audiences. This is a varied and hands‑on role in a small, collaborative team. You will need strong creative and technical skills alongside excellent judgement, initiative and organisational ability. You will often work independently, managing projects from concept through to delivery, while also building strong relationships with colleagues across Lambeth Palace, the Church of England and the Anglican Communion. The role offers a unique opportunity for someone who is passionate about digital storytelling, understands the role the Christian faith plays in public life, and wants to use their skills to support the Church’s ministry and mission in the digital sphere.

This role closes for applications on Sunday 4th July 2026.

Responsibilities

The Digital Communications Manager will lead the day-to-day delivery of digital communications for the Archbishop of Canterbury. The role will include responsibility for planning, producing and publishing high-quality digital content that reflects the breadth of the Archbishop’s ministry, from worship, prayer and teaching within the Church, to public engagement across national and international issues.

  • Managing the Archbishop’s social media channels and website, ensuring content is timely, engaging, accurate and aligned with communications priorities.
  • Planning and delivering content schedules and digital campaigns across multiple platforms.
  • Producing high-quality multimedia content including short‑form vertical video, photography, graphics and written content.
  • Accompanying the Archbishop at engagements and events to capture digital content where required, including some overseas travel.
  • Working closely with colleagues across Lambeth Palace, the Church of England and the Anglican Communion Office to identify opportunities for collaborative content and coordinated communications activity.
  • Managing the Archbishop of Canterbury website, including publishing content, maintaining standards and supporting ongoing improvements to user experience and accessibility.
  • Monitoring trends, analytics and platform performance, producing reports and recommendations to help strengthen digital engagement and effectiveness.
  • Ensuring content reflects the tone, priorities and pastoral responsibilities of the Archbishop’s ministry, with appropriate sensitivity and judgement.
  • Supporting wider communications activity across the team where required, including occasional press office and communications support.
  • Providing occasional out‑of‑hours support during significant events, announcements or major moments in the life of the Church.

Qualifications

We are looking for a creative and highly organised digital communications professional with strong content creation skills and the confidence to manage a busy and high‑profile digital operation with initiative and good judgement. The successful candidate will need to combine technical digital expertise with excellent interpersonal skills, strong editorial instincts and an understanding of the Archbishop of Canterbury’s ministry and public role.

You Will Be Able To Demonstrate

  • Significant experience managing social media channels, websites and digital content in a professional communications environment, with sound editorial judgement.
  • Strong skills in filming and editing short‑form vertical video content for social media platforms.
  • A proven track‑record of producing engaging digital content including video, graphics, photography and written copy.
  • Excellent copywriting and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience using content management systems, analytics tools and social media scheduling platforms.
  • The ability to plan and deliver projects independently, managing competing priorities effectively and working at pace when required.
  • The confidence to build positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and colleagues.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach, with the ability to contribute positively within a small team environment.
  • An understanding of the mission and ministry of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Church of England and the Anglican Communion.
  • An appreciation of the role of worship, prayer, preaching and pastoral ministry within the life of the Church, and the ability to communicate these authentically and appropriately through digital content.
