As a role holder, you will work collaboratively with the Senior Constable/Sergeant and colleagues to provide an excellent welcome and security function for the Cathedral and surrounding properties, including:
- 27 properties within Lady Chapel and Cathedral Close
- Adjacent student accommodations at Dillistone and Patey Courts
- St. James’ House and private accommodation at Arch View Crescent
As part of the Constables team, you will ensure the department meets its objectives related to service standards for security, planned income levels in the car park, and support to other departments across the cathedral to benefit the organization.
Key responsibilities:
- Partner with the cathedral community, liaising with various departments and individuals to ensure services and events are conducted peacefully without public disruption.
- Be the first point of contact and welcome for visitors, providing polite and helpful customer service to promote a positive image.
- Handle customer complaints professionally, calmly, and courteously.
- Maintain a visible presence to deter crime and reassure the cathedral community.
- Conduct at least four daily foot patrols of the Cathedral, properties, and grounds, addressing incidents effectively.
- Diffuse volatile situations with regard for safety.
- Assist distressed or bereaved members of the public or those seeking refuge sensitively.
- Discourage unwelcome visitors and escort them from the Cathedral and grounds if necessary.
General Responsibilities include:
- Follow specific duties assigned by senior colleagues within the team and wider cathedral community.
- Act as key holder for all premises within the Cathedral.
- Open the Cathedral each morning: disable alarms, turn on lighting, and open gates and doors in public access areas.
- Within the Cathedral car park, ensure:
- Pay and Display equipment functions properly at all times
- Monitor all traffic entering Cathedral grounds
- Control the car park barrier to allow only staff, deliveries, permits, and authorized persons access
The post holder will undertake other relevant duties and training as requested, consistent with the role.
