The Diocese of Chichester is one of the 42 dioceses which make up the Church of England. Our clergy serve their parishes, work alongside church schools and support and encourage the wider community to help the people of East and West Sussex to know, love and follow Jesus.

We are looking for a highly competent Administrator to join our Clergy HR team at the Diocese of Chichester. You will be responsible for ensuring clergy appointments are processed efficiently, arrange DBS checks for new and existing members of the clergy and work on keeping clergy HR administration up to date and in good order. This is a key role and you will divide your time between the office at the Bishop’s Palace in Chichester and the team at Church House, Hove whilst having the opportunity to work from home for part of the week.

What you’ll do

  • Administer the clergy recruitment process, including adverts, application forms, interview arrangements, right to work checks and licensing dates.
  • Manage the process of DBS checks for licenced clergy ensuring they are renewed and recorded on the diocesan database.
  • Prepare and administer clergy Statement of Particulars, clergy removals and resettlement grants and monitor and collate clergy property licences.
  • Keep clergy HR files up to date including preparing departure notices for clergy retiring or leaving the diocese.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience of complex administration processes with some knowledge of Safer Recruitment.
  • Good organisation skills and the ability to manage a varied and busy workload.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • IT confidence and competence, with the ability to use MS Office, databases and online recruitment portals.
  • A high level of integrity and discretion and the ability to handle confidential information with diplomacy and sensitivity.
  • An understanding of the Church of England and its structures, systems and terminology.

What We Offer

  • A salary of £24,837 per annum.
