Moving & Handling Advisor (Clinical) in Tadworth

As a Moving & Handling Advisor, you will report to the Head of Community and School Therapies. Your role will be to provide clinical moving and handling consultation and clinical leadership to the Multidisciplinary Team, supporting children and young people with neurodisabilities and neurodevelopmental conditions accessing The Childrens Trust School, neurorehabilitation, and residential services.

Main duties of the job:

• Provide high quality, evidence-based moving and handling risk assessments and promote safe systems of work.
• Offer formal training to internal staff, as well as child/young person specific consultation around safe moving and handling assessment, guidance, and equipment use.
• Provide effective communication and training within House-based multidisciplinary teams.
• Lead the provision of high quality, evidence-based moving and handling consultation for children and young people attending The Childrens Trust School and rehabilitation services.
• Undertake specialist moving and handling risk assessments of children with highly complex needs.
• Monitor and review the moving and handling risk assessment processes, documentation, and reporting system.
• Devise and support moving and handling plans that fit within the child's daily routine.
• Develop goals in collaboration with the child and family, as well as the multidisciplinary and education teams.
• Teach, integrate, and monitor safe moving and handling techniques.
• Assess for and organise provision of necessary moving and handling equipment.
• Keep appropriate and accurate intervention records.
• Implement the moving and handling policy approach to MDT working across the site.
• Report on moving and handling key performance indicators.
• Develop and implement audits on moving and handling documentation.
• Become a member of the National Back Exchange.
• Work closely with all members of the Multidisciplinary Team, as well as the child and family.
• Work flexibly in terms of hours to meet the needs of the service.
• Assess, evaluate, and recommend transition plans for children/young people.
• Represent the Therapy Team and The Childrens Trust when appropriate.
• Provide regular teaching to internal clinical staff for induction and moving and handling refresher annual updates.
• Facilitate effective communication with families and members of the Multidisciplinary Team.
• Attend, contribute, and chair Multidisciplinary Team meetings.
• Manage informal complaints in line with The Childrens Trust policies.
• Ensure high standards of practice through adherence to recognised professional standards.
• Participate in the annual Performance Development Review and monthly supervision sessions.
• Critically evaluate new intervention methods and implement where appropriate.
• Undertake all mandatory training in line with The Childrens Trust policy.
• Take an active part in the training of junior colleagues.

Person Specification:

• Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy / Physiotherapy or Nursing.
• HCPC Registration.
• Minimum of five years clinical experience post qualification.
• Experience in developing specialist training in handling practices.
• Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding children and young people with complex disabilities.
• Commitment to the vision and values of The Childrens Trust.
• Ability to cope working in a demanding environment.
