Permanent position with funding until 30th April 2026

Salary: £30,600.00 per annum

Location: Supporting all services in the West Midlands, including Shropshire and Birmingham

Hours: 35 hours per week (full-time)

The Children’s Society has been supporting children and young people for over 140 years. We run local services that assist children during their most vulnerable moments. We are dedicated to being there for children every step of the way. This role is within our Youth Practice team based in Birmingham. The focus is to foster a culture of youth voice and participation within our services, leading programs that ensure children and young people's views and ideas influence our work. We seek a passionate, energetic individual committed to youth voice and participation to join our dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop relationships with young people to support their voices being heard.
  • Lead and develop youth groups.
  • Innovate ways to amplify young people's voices and overcome engagement barriers.
  • Apply an intersectional approach when working with young people experiencing systemic oppressions.
  • Engage in continuous learning to improve practice and stay updated on innovative approaches.
  • Utilize communication and influencing skills to inspire and engage young people.
  • Maintain clear records and complete monitoring and evaluation reports.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in youth work.
  • Experience facilitating participation activities individually and in groups.
  • Experience supporting young people with complex needs and providing pastoral support.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in youth voice initiatives.
  • Proven championing of youth voice and inclusive practice development.
Additional Requirements:
  • Availability for evening and virtual engagements.
  • Willingness to work weekends approximately once a month.
  • Willingness to travel across the region to work with young people.

Interviews are scheduled for 30th May 2025 at Whaddon Youth Centre, Cheltenham, and will be conducted in two stages: a staff panel and a young people's panel, both on the same day.
