The Chequers Matching Green is a well-established, up-market, family-owned restaurant and country pub known for seasonal British cooking, quality local produce, and warm, attentive hospitality. Our kitchen blends classic pub favourites with refined, modern techniques, delivering food that's honest, elegant, and full of flavour. We are located just outside of Harlow and Bishop's Stortford in the delightful village of Matching Green.
We are looking for a passionate and skilled Chef de Partie to join our talented kitchen team. You will be responsible for running your own section, maintaining high culinary standards, and contributing to a positive, professional kitchen culture. A successful candidate will be expected to work 48 hours per week, including weekends and Bank Holidays. The restaurant and pub are open Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner.
Key Responsibilities- Take full ownership of your designated section, always ensuring consistency and quality
- Prepare, cook, and present dishes to a high standard in line with menu specifications
- Work closely with the Head Chef and Sous Chef on service, prep, and menu development
- Maintain excellent food hygiene, health & safety, and cleanliness standards
- Support junior chefs through guidance, training, and leadership
- Assist with stock control, ordering, and minimising waste
- Contribute ideas and creativity to seasonal menus and specials
- Previous experience as a Chef de Partie or strong Commis ready to step up
- Solid understanding of fresh, seasonal British produce
- Experience in a quality pub, brasserie, or restaurant environment
- Strong organisational skills and ability to work under pressure
- A positive, team-focused attitude with attention to detail
- Food safety and hygiene knowledge (Level 2 or above preferred)
