Overview
We are seeking an experienced Patent Box Tax Consultant to support our innovation and IP related tax advisory projects. This role involves preparing high-quality financial documentation to support UK Patent Box claims, aligning patent portfolios with commercial revenues, and ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the UK Patent Box regime, corporate tax, and its interaction with R&D tax relief. The role requires the ability to translate complex technical, financial, and IP data into clear, compelling reports that withstand HMRC review and deliver value to clients. Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. Salary: £55,000.00-£70,000.00 per year.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed patent and IP mapping to identify which products, services, and revenue streams qualify under the Patent Box regime.
- Prepare Patent Box calculations and supporting documentation, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements and consistency with R&D claims.
- Collaborate with R&D, finance, and legal/IP teams to collect and validate technical, financial, and patent-related data.
- Translate complex technical and commercial information into clear, structured content for use in tax computations, client reports, and HMRC submissions.
- Support broader innovation tax projects by aligning Patent Box with R&D tax relief and other funding opportunities.
- Assist clients in developing audit-ready documentation and managing HMRC queries.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Ideally either CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser), ACA/ACCA, or UK patent attorney with significant tax experience; equivalent experience considered.
- Solid knowledge of CTA 2009 Part 8A Patent Box rules, and awareness of transfer pricing and R&D interaction.
- Strong knowledge of R&D tax relief and how it interacts with Patent Box.
- Strong analytical and financial modelling skills with attention to detail.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing complex client portfolios under tight deadlines.
