We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Reception Teacher to join our friendly team on a fixed-term maternity-cover basis from February 2027. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher or an Early Career Teacher (ECT) to help give children the very best start in a school where individuality and imagination are celebrated.


You will nurture our Reception children’s confidence, curiosity and independence through purposeful play and engaging teaching. Working closely with colleagues and families, you will provide continuity of learning and care while helping every child thrive.

About The Chadderton Preparatory Grammar School

The Chadderton Preparatory Grammar School is an independent, co-educational school for children aged 2 to 11 in Chadderton, Oldham, with Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep provision. Our aim is to inspire and challenge children to love learning. About the Position

Start Date: February 2027

You will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging learning across the EYFS curriculum, balancing purposeful play, child-initiated activities and adult-led teaching.
  • Create a nurturing, stimulating and inclusive Reception classroom and outdoor learning environment.
  • Teach phonics, early reading, writing and mathematics, using observation and assessment to plan each child’s next steps.
  • Work closely with parents, carers and colleagues to support children’s wellbeing, additional needs and transitions.
  • Promote positive behaviour, uphold safeguarding responsibilities and contribute to clubs, trips and wider School life.

About You

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a bachelor’s degree. Applications from ECTs with relevant EYFS teaching placements are welcome.
  • Sound knowledge of the EYFS framework, early child development, phonics and early mathematics.
  • The ability to plan engaging learning, assess progress and adapt teaching to children’s individual needs.
  • Warm, clear communication with children and families, a collaborative approach and a strong commitment to safeguarding.
